Our Services

Derbien offers a comprehensive suite of services centered around the use of stingless bees to advance regenerative agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education.

Our offerings include tailored training programs and seminars for farmers, educators, and the public; technical support and hive technology for integrating stingless bees into agroforestry and regenerative farming systems; landscape conservation initiatives that provide income incentives through sustainable honey production; and commercial pollination services for various crops.
Each service is designed to combine ecological function with real-world impact - enhancing productivity, restoring ecosystems, and building awareness across rural and urban settings alike.

We tailor all our services to the specific needs of each client.

Urban stingless beekeeping training

Derbien’s urban stingless beekeeping training is a hands-on program designed to teach individuals—especially families and urban dwellers—how to keep stingless bees in small spaces like balconies, and gardens. The training covers:

  • Stingless beee biology and behavior

  • Techniques for colony care, honey harvesting, and observation

  • Ecological awareness and pollination benefits in cities

It aims to reconnect people with nature, promote biodiversity in urban environments, and empower participants to care for a colony while harvesting a small amount of honey for personal use.

Agroforestry/RegenAg integration of stingless bees

We can help you integrate stingless bees into agroforestry systems as a sustainable source of supplementary income for smallholder farmers and rural communities.

By placing our stingless beehives in mixed-crop environments - such as coffee, mango, and other fruit tree systems - we enable farmers to benefit from improved pollination and increased yields, while also harvesting high-value stingless bee products like honey, pollen, and propolis.

These products can be consumed, sold locally, or marketed through Derbien’s networks to reach premium buyers.

We provide site assessment, training, hive technology, and ongoing support to ensure that communities can manage their colonies effectively and turn stingless beekeeping into a reliable, low-maintenance income stream that complements their existing agricultural practices.

Professional stingless beekeeping training

Derbien’s professional stingless beekeeping training is an intensive, hands-on program tailored for aspiring meliponiculturists, urban farmers, and ecological entrepreneurs. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish and manage stingless bee colonies effectively. It teaches:

  • Site selection: We start out with an assessment of the site intended for stingless beekeeping by the client, teaching methods for site selection along the way.

  • Colony Management: Participants learn advanced techniques for splitting hives, managing colony health, and optimizing honey production.

  • Honey Harvesting and Processing: Trainees gain practical experience in harvesting honey, propolis, and pollen, along with processing methods that maintain product quality.

Commercial crop pollination service

We offer commercial pollination services using stingless bees to enhance fruit set, improve crop quality, and reduce dependence on manual labor or non-native honeybees.

Our approach leverages the unique foraging behavior and adaptability of stingless bees, making them ideal for greenhouse and open-field settings alike.

We are looking to co-develop and trial stingless bees across diverse crops and growing conditions, aiming to tailor pollination strategies that align with specific crop requirements and operational needs.

Stingless bee seminar - Young audiences/schools

Derbien’s stingless bee seminar for young audiences/school children is an interactive and fun educational session that introduces kids to the world of native, non-stinging bees. It includes:

  • Live hive demonstrations with safe observation windows

  • Hands-on activities like painting of hives, honey tasting, and play-sessions with propolis play-dough

  • Mini nature walks to spot pollinator-friendly plants

The seminar sparks curiosity about nature, encourages environmental responsibility, and leaves children with a sense of wonder for bees and biodiversity.

Stingless bee integration in landscape conservation initiatives

Derbien can help you use stingless bees as a powerful incentive mechanism for landscape conservation in ecosystems like mangroves, protected forests, and High Conservation Value (HCV) areas.

By placing colonies in or near these areas, we enable local communities to generate income through the sustainable harvest of honey, pollen, and propolis - creating a direct, tangible benefit from protecting and conserving natural habitats.

This approach transforms conservation from a cost into an opportunity, where communities are rewarded for maintaining ecosystem health. The bees not only support biodiversity but also serve as a symbol of the mutual value that emerges when nature and livelihoods are aligned.
